In 2012

It’s going to be a good year.

Today marks my 3 and 1/2 year point “officially” as Laura Leslie Photography and 7 years since I took my first course in photography at the University of Georgia. Sometimes I can hardly believe where I’m at today. Getting into photography was a happy accident for me after randomly choosing photography as an art major. We had to declare a major from a long list in order to be accepted into the art program and photography seemed well….cool. I didn’t grow up taking many pictures, never dreamed of being a photographer when I was little, and never had a cool camera growing up. But when I loaded the first roll of film into my camera (backwards) at UGA, shot it, and developed it in the darkroom….I knew it would be a life long love.

Getting to this point has been a roller coaster of passion, many mistakes, hard work and lots of growing pains but I wouldn’t change a thing about this journey. Last year, I realized I was growing to the point of needing help and it was hard to finally admit that and cave in. When it comes to LLP, I’m sorta…well…a perfectionist and control freak and everything has to be done a certain way. I hired an office assistant a few months ago and I don’t know what I would do without her today. We’ve been working on a lot of behind the scenes projects these last few months so I could go into the New Year running like a fine tuned machine. Everything is integrated online now, so you can look forward to 2012 being a bit easier and very organized.

In March, I will be attending the Film Is Not Dead workshop here in Atlanta and wiping the dust off my film cameras that were last used in college. Looking forward to that! In 2012, you can also look for a new session type I will be offering…boudoir. So many things to look forward to in 2012 and I’m grateful.

Perhaps my own wedding will be in 2012?!;)

Laura! I have been following your work for some time now and I gotta say…you have skills, woman! You are a frequent source of inspiration for me and whenever I get to check out your recent work, it’s like eating a really good piece of chocolate. And I really like chocolate. Anyway, I am so excited for you and your creative journey…may 2012 bring you much success. =) Cheers!

my trip to steamboat springs, co | life post

I love travel. Traveling to different countries and states. I especially love when I travel for weddings or photography which I do frequently..job bonus # 2,000,437. It was a treat when I traveled to Steamboat to visit a college friend and I got to take some shots of them. She took me skiing which I figured out is WAY harder than it looks and to the hot springs (hello beautiful). We took a day for a photo excursion along the frozen river and icy pathway through downtown Steamboat. It was heaven. Thank you M for my lovely week in CO. Please don’t laugh…I’m a portrait photographer not landscape. Be easy on me. Here’s a few snaps.

share the love to benefit the Haitian earthquake relief effort

Hi guys.

Just wanted to drop in and share a bit about our weekend event. It was fun…got to talk shop with all the amazing SoFly photographers and hang out in downtown Hollywood. It’s always inspiring to hang out with a mass group of woman photographers…my head is always swimming with ideas and inspirations when I leave. And thank you Courtney for organizing this event. You outdid yourself.

Thanks Tookie for being such a sport and sweet child. Tookie is the son of one of the photographers. He came along to paint the sidewalks, play and keep us entertained. Just put him in a shopping cart and roll him around and he’s happy.
